Why does chiropractic (or osteopathy) not have the same scientific consensus as medicine?
In the field of global therapies, there is a major current problem: it is difficult to determine the efficacy of treatment because there are many parameters that make each patient unique.
This means that global therapies, whether within chiropractic, osteopathy or other complementary medicine disciplines such as acupuncture, lack much scientific backing compared to more analytical therapies.
Thus, the application of the technique is adapted and cannot be the same for everyone.

On the other hand, money has to be taken into account, because the majority of medical studies are sponsored by the very powerful pharmaceutical industry. However, manual therapies, such as chiropractic, osteopathy and other specialities – the so-called complementary medicine – do not have this financial backing because they do not prescribe drugs and are therefore not so interesting for large groups.
